Too bad for Delfin Lee, the man who ordered the pressing of charges against him understands his job, Vice President Jejomar C. Binay said in response to the arrested estate developer’s allegation that he would rot in jail if Binay won the presidency in 2016.
"Siguro, ang malas lang ni Mr. Lee, natapat s’ya na naiintindihan ko ang ginagawa ko. Uulitin ko, inaral namin itong mabuti. ‘Yung mga hindi naman kasali, hindi naman inihabla," Binay told reporters after speaking at the Financial Times-First Metro Philippine Investment Summit Monday afternoon.
The Vice President stressed that the government has a strong case against the developer who is facing syndicated estafa charges before a Pampanga court.
"Kung pagbabatayan natin iyong ebidensiya, palagay ko after due process, talagang he will be found guilty."
Binay is the chair of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council and chairman of the Pag-IBIG Fund Board of Trustees.
The Vice President ordered the filing of syndicated estafa charges against Lee and several Globe Asiatique officials in December 2010 after an investigation he ordered revealed that Lee used fake documents and ghost borrowers who supposedly bought homes in Globe Asiatique’s Xevera housing project in Mabalacat, Pampanga, to siphon almost P7 billion in loans from Pag-IBIG Fund.
Lee was arrested in March by Task Force Tugis, which was formed to capture the country’s top five high-profile fugitives that include him, Jovito Palparan, Ruben Ecleo Jr., and brothers Joel Reyes and Mario Reyes.
