VP BINAY AWARDS 133 LOT TITLES IN PANDACAN (March 18, 2011)

Vice President and Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council chair Jejomar C. Binay today awarded Transfer Certificate of Titles (TCT) to 133 qualified beneficiaries in Pandacan, Manila.

The recipients, who are members of the Homeowner’s Association of Barangay 842–843, have received their TCTs after availing the Community Land Acquisition Support Program (CLASP) of the National Housing Authority (NHA) and paying their lots in full.

“Prayoridad ng ating Pangulong Noynoy Aquino na gumanda ang buhay ng bawat Pilipino. ‘Yan po ay gagawin natin at magsisimula po tayo sa disente at maayos na pabahay para sa lahat,” Binay said.

The housing czar, however, cautioned the recipients not to sell their titles or pawn them and risk foreclosure.

“Ang biyayang pabahay ay hindi nakakamit ng lahat. Iilan lamang po ang pinalad na maging benepisyaryo ng proyekto ng gobyerno sa pabahay dahil sa kakulangan ng pondo kaya po sana ay bigyan natin ito ng halaga,” he added.

With the Vice President during the awarding ceremony were NHA General Manager Atty. Chito Cruz, Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim and Congresswoman Rosenda Ann Ocampo of the 5th District of Manila.

The Pandacan project site, which has an area of 6, 437.40 m2, was acquired by the NHA from its owner, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Manila, by virtue of Deed of Exchange with sale on August 11, 1990.

The tenants of the property organized themselves into a homeowner’s association, which aimed to acquire the site through the Community Based Tenurial Assistance Program (CBTAP) of the NHA.

Then Congresswoman Sandy Ocampo endorsed the association to NHA’s CBTAP under the CLASP.

In 2010, the NHA distributed over 5,000 land titles. The Vice President pledged that the key shelter agencies will continue working to provide quality homes to the Filipino people and address the country’s 3.6 million housing backlog.
