Vice President Jejomar C. Binay today said survivors of super typhoon ‘Yolanda’ living in Tanauan, Leyte will soon have decent, safe, and resilient homes that they can call their own through the Prime Town Housing Projects Phases 1 and 2 that will be undertaken by the National Housing Authority (NHA) in partnership with Gawad Kalinga (GK).
“This permanent housing program is only the beginning of more projects that will be undertaken in this town that will benefit the 6,670 families who lost their homes when Yolanda struck last year,” the housing czar said during the groundbreaking ceremony for the housing projects.
The NHA and GK will contruct 822 housing units in barangays Pago and Maribi. The units will conform to the design parameters prescribed by the National Building Code, Design for Socialized and Economic Housing, and other related laws to make sure that they will be able to withstand natural calamities and extreme weather conditions.
Binay also mentioned that the NHA-GK partnership is among several housing programs that will be launched in coordination with the private sector.
“We hope that this venture with Gawad Kalinga will spur more partnerships not only with the private sector but with other government agencies and non-government organizations to expedite the recovery of our brothers and sisters in the Visayas region,” said NHA General Manager Atty. Chito Cruz.
